"A competition-winning architectural master plan proposal for historic sporting grounds. Commissioned by the University of Cambridge Cricket Club and Hughes Hall, Cavaleri Partnership conceptualized a multi-functional sports, educational, and conference pavilion integrated into the college’s vision for future expansion."
Reimagining Historic Collegiate Sports Grounds
The architectural proposal for Fenners’ Cricket Ground represents a forward-thinking vision for the University of Cambridge. Jointly commissioned by the University of Cambridge Cricket Club and Hughes Hall, the brief tasked Cavaleri Partnership with designing a state-of-the-art replacement for the legacy sports pavilion.
Situated on one of cricket’s most storied grounds, the conceptual scheme bridges heritage sports architecture with versatile academic, community, and commercial facilities.
Integrated Multi-Functional Campus Infrastructure
The proposed pavilion design was engineered to operate as a multi-use collegiate asset:
-
Athletic & High-Performance Facilities: Dedicated modern training and changing suites tailored for university athletes.
-
Flexible Educational Environments: Versatile teaching and seminar spaces designed to accommodate expanding academic requirements.
-
Conference & Event Infrastructure: Premium event spaces structured to host university functions, symposia, and private conferences.
-
College Estate Master Planning: Conceptually integrated as a central catalyst within Hughes Hall’s broader master plan and future growth strategy.
Specialized Design Leadership in Higher Education
This master-planning proposal demonstrates Cavaleri Partnership’s ability to align multi-stakeholder institutional requirements, historic landscape sensitivities, and complex spatial briefs into a unified architectural vision.
