Demolition is now complete at the Stone site, and the grounds are actively being prepared for foundations. The Cavaleri Partnership has spearheaded the master plan to transform this Grade II listed historic site into a state-of-the-art care village and community asset. The development focuses on sensitively repurposing mid-19th-century monastic architecture, including Pugin-era Gothic Revival structures, former educational suites, and cloistered courtyards.

Key Conservation and Architectural Interventions

The master planning framework navigates statutory conservation policies to deliver modern environmental efficiency and functional layout optimization. The project incorporates several specialized strategies:

  • Grade-Listed Fabric Conservation features non-destructive masonry cleaning, traditional lime-mortar repointing, and lead roof restoration complying with Historic England guidelines.

  • Adaptive Reuse & Internal Reconfiguration reimagines former convent quarters and classrooms into modern residential accommodations, administrative offices, and community assembly spaces.

  • An Inclusive Step-Free Access Strategy integrates discreet ramped thresholds and modern passenger lifts to comply with universal DDA accessibility standards without damaging the original stone tile floors.

  • A Thermal & MEP Upgrade Framework introduces secondary interior glazing, discreet underfloor heating loops, and low-energy mechanical ventilation to improve building performance.

  • Courtyard & Site Circulation Optimization realigns internal movement paths and opens daylight channels to illuminate deep-plan historic corridors.

By pairing this sensitive heritage restoration with progressive healthcare design, the restricted asset is being reinvented for modern community benefit. The upcoming phases will introduce modern, pitched-roof residential structures with expansive floor-to-ceiling glazing, arranged around accessible, landscaped communal gardens.
