Wilburton Village Hall - Cambs

"Revitalizing village heritage while securing long-term community income. Won via an architectural design competition, Cavaleri Partnership transformed the tired Wilburton Village Hall in Cambridgeshire—exposing the hidden vaulted ceiling, integrating underfloor heating and dance floors, and converting an adjacent cottage into two apartments to provide a continuous revenue stream for the hall."

Architecture & Community Asset

Modernizing historic community spaces requires balancing architectural heritage restoration, flexible spatial utility, and long-term financial viability. Having lacked major works for an extended period, Wilburton Village Hall in Cambridgeshire was in need of extensive architectural intervention.

Cavaleri Partnership was awarded the commission following a competitive architectural competition. The design scheme re-architected the main building into a flexible, energy-efficient civic hub while unlocking commercial income potential across the wider site.

Key Built Features & Architectural Highlights

Derived strictly from the verified project brief, the completed works delivered:

  • Vaulted Ceiling Restoration: Removed an intrusive legacy ceiling grid to expose and celebrate the hall's original timber vaulted ceiling.

  • Flexible Spatial Reconfiguration: Re-architected the main assembly hall, meeting rooms, and social club areas to allow seamless, multi-purpose community use.

  • High-Specification Floor & Heating Upgrades: Installed specialist dance floors paired with an integrated underfloor heating system to optimize user comfort and energy efficiency.

  • Revenue-Generating Residential Conversion: Adapted an adjacent, separate cottage into two residential apartments to create a recurring financial income stream for the Village Hall trust.
