House of Prayer, Princess of Wales Hospital - Cambridge

"Fostering spiritual connection through light-filled sacred architecture. Commissioned by the NHS, Cavaleri Partnership formulated a comprehensive architectural proposal for the House of Prayer, engineered to integrate sanctuary worship spaces, multi-purpose community halls, and sustainable timber craftsmanship into a serene landscape setting."

Sacred Architecture & Multi-Functional Community Strategy

Designing contemporary worship spaces requires creating environments that inspire spiritual reflection while serving as adaptable hubs for daily community outreach. Appointed to evaluate site capacity and spatial requirements for the House of Prayer, Cavaleri Partnership crafted a forward-thinking architectural design proposal.

The conceptual scheme illustrates how modern timber structures can utilize natural daylighting, acoustic insulation, and flexible floor plans to unify worship and civic assembly under one roof.

Key Conceptual Features & Architectural Specifications

The proposed master plan framework incorporated:

  • Daylit Central Sanctuary: Formulated with a vaulted ceiling lattice and discreet clerestory glazing, flooding the primary assembly space with indirect natural sunlight.

  • Flexible Multi-Purpose Community Wing: Integrated acoustic operable partitions allowing the main sanctuary to expand or break down into smaller classrooms and event spaces.

  • Sustainable Timber Envelope: Specified glue-laminated timber (Glulam) frames and natural larch cladding to achieve a low embodied-carbon footprint.

  • Universal Accessibility & Circulation: Fully step-free circulation paths, broad public foyers, and inclusive washroom facilities designed to accommodate all congregation members.

  • Landscaped Reflection Courtyard: External garden spaces engineered to buffer urban noise and offer quiet zones for outdoor gatherings and contemplation.

Specialized Architectural Leadership in Religious Design

This conceptual study demonstrates Cavaleri Partnership’s core strengths in sacred facility master planning, community hall feasibility, and low-carbon institutional architecture.
